Cathy works on sculptures and drawing in her Stroud Studio, finding inspiration and stimulation from the vibrant art community and the soft Gloucestershire landscape.

She has experience of working creatively with people in varied settings.  Her listening skills are excellent and have been useful in community arts projects ranging from placements that have involved patients with neurological diseases from Gloucester Hospital / primary school children / sixth form pupils and mothers with young children.

During her MA in Arts in Society at Gloss University, Cathy organized and facilitated 2 projects in the Neurological department of Gloucester Hospital. During both of these her aim was to involve patients who has very little mobility. The work was successful, not only in producing artwork but also in raising the spirits and humor of the patients involved.

Other environments in which Cathy has worked are: Park Early Years centre, Stroud; the Sure Start Centre in Gloucester where she ran the “Fantasy Garden” art project for parents and children, and Bournside Secondary School, Cheltenham where she created a performance and sculpture piece with a group of 6 formers.

For the last three years she has been pursuing her interest of working with children through her involvement with the 5x5x5 research project. Her setting for 2007 was at St Saviours Church of England Primary School in Bath.

In 2004 she collaborated with sound artist Sue Arnold to create an installation,  ‘Singing Pots’, which involved sound and sculpture and was sited in the Forest of Dean. The Arts Council funded the project. The work also involved input from local primary school children.

Cathy continued the theme of working with sound and sculpture in May 2005 at Taurus Crafts in the Forest of Dean. This was also combined with workshops on sound and sculpture with local children.’.

Last year Cathy produced a series of sculptural works called ‘Face’. This was an environmental piece cast in the materials of the earth and left to decompose naturally in the site in which it was cast. She cast the sculpture in sand at Weston Super Mare beach, creating a beautiful photographic record of the piece as it was washed away by the tide. She then cast the piece in an earth/cob mix at a local woodland location during the bluebell season. In 2009/10 the piece has been cast in snow….The photographs, some by Nigel Noyes were exhibited at the Star Anise Café in Stroud and are also part of Cathys portfolio of work.

Cathys practice also involves building collage and drawing, mainly from the figure.
