Projects with children

5x5x5

During 2005 - 2008 I was involved in the 5x5x5 project. 5x5x5 is an organisation working presently in the South west of England, bringing artists into schools. Their approach is a very creative and groundbreaking way of working with young children and their work was originally inspired by the Reggio Emilia sytem of early years education in the town of Reggio Emilia, in Italy. This is a  research project, presently working with small groups of children over several terms

Creative Groups in Stroud

For the last four years I have been offering private creative sessions with young children, ages ranging from four to eight years. Within these groups I follow the childrens' interests and fascinations as they play with materials. I do give them technical advice as to how to work with various materials. For example, with paint, I will show them how to mix colours or use pigment and water to make colour but only if the idea comes from them. The sessions are playful and the children learn a great deal, becoming more confident about their own abilities. I am currently running a group at a local nursery and will be doing a weekly session with a local school for children with learning difficulties.

Mandala Project

This was a very successful project that took place at Bournside Secondary School, Cheltenham, with a small group of sixth form students. I ran the project with fellow sculptress Alison Cockroft. The project involved the creation of a sculptural piece made up of separate three-dimensional elements. The theme of a circular Mandala, as a culturally and spiritually significant symbol was introduced and integrated in to the project.
